Ned's interest in education began at an early age; his parents were both educators. Since the completion of his undergraduate degree in 1982, Ned has been teaching. His formal experience began in a sixth grade classroom. Later, Ned had the joy of supervising three homeless shelters in WV and also spent some days as an executive-director of a hospice. In each of those vocations, teaching and developing people have been a common thread. Most recently, Ned served as a principal in the Dominican Republic.
 
Ned is married to Charlene Hess, and together they have two beautiful children.
